I want to sleep for a week...

Well, neither my wife nor I seem to have been able to break the bad news.

We took the dog back.

After all the time (uh…five days?) that we spent with her, Holli and I realized that now was not the time for a pet. We know, we know, we know. Many of you warned us, and advised us of various things, and we just got the dog anyway. Now I could give you all sorts of excuses why – like the fact that we believe that she was potentially abused – but I think a lot of it comes down to money, and frankly, my health. The good news is, that we already caught wind that the people who adopted the dog we REALLY wanted, are going to adopt our dog as well. Let’s hope she lasts long with them.

I started my new job with the State of Arizona Government Information Technology Agency (GITA for short, as in “geeta”) this week, and so far it’s been great. It seems like a really good atmosphere to work in, and I’m interested to see how the rest of my time here will be spent. I’ve already seen a lot of familiar faces at the legislature and in meetings. So, it’s kind of nice to be back in my element as Holli said. Although, my “element” is still debatable. I reached my nadir of being an intern about a year ago, and yet, here I am again…an intern.

Old Man: So, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Me: I want to be an intern!

In other news, I learned that my old stake president had an aortic aneurism last week and had to have emergency surgery. Heart matter scare me a lot because I almost lost my mom to congestive heart failure when I was in high school…twice. Most people don’t live through it the first time. But she’s a strong woman, and David is a strong man, so I know he’ll pull through. I just worry though…it’s my nature. I don’t think he realizes how much of a mentor he’s been to me over the years. I need to stop because I’m getting emotional just thinking about it. I lost one of my favorite bishops a year and a half ago and that was hard on me as well. For those of you Mormon folk out there, I didn’t grow up with a priesthood holder in the home (my dad isn’t a member), and so I tend to be very sentimental (ok, I bawl), when I think of all that these men have done for me…and again, I don’t even think they know that they’ve done it. Ok, enough…it’s bad enough that I’m now crying while typing this, but I also happen to be at work.

I wanted to thank Eden for her nice words about my wife and I on her blog. We haven’t met yet, and she’s still complimenting me. Must be an outstanding person herself!

Love to all…

Amy - glad you're keeping your blog. Please let me know when you get it changed over.

And yeah, you were right about the dog.

Nick Patterson died in September of '04...that's who I was talking about (when I was in 1st ward).

I went and tried to visit President Brown last night, but I think all the visitors have been overwhelming. I talked to his wife and she said he's lucky and blessed to be here. But he is doing better.rvdro

Oh but Holli knows me John. We both served in Bulgaria, although Holli replaced me. Holli and I also paled around when she first came to AZ...she can tell you my real name and so on. But I do think the world of her, and of you because you are so good to her, and she deserves it. :)

Hi John!!!! Amy gave me your blog info. It sounds like you are doing great... I'm so happy for you! This is Carol btw... yeah the one from way back in high school. It's been ages I know and I've often wondered what you were up to since I always knew you'd be successful. I'm living up here in Flagstaff now. I just moved up here from Glendale last August for NAU. Your puppy was adorable but MAN are they a handfull! My sister's family has a new puppy, ironically they got her just before their long time family dog passed on. I have a cat tho' but he's with my padres right now down in the valley. I'm living in an apt on campus so I can't have him here. Well say hi when you have time! Talk to ya soon... Carol :)
