SAT to IQ? I don't think so...

Let me preface this by saying, I hate standardized tests. My wife does wonderfully in them...in fact, I have seen her ACT and GRE scores, and she could have, hands down, gotten into some of the best colleges or universities in the country (not to say that BYU and The University of Arizona aren't good - but you know what I mean).

I recently took an IQ test, and while I don't want to reveal my exact score, it placed me in the 98th percentile, which is the minimum you can get to be a member of Mensa (and no, I don't plan on joining).

However, looking back to my SAT scores from high school, and my GRE's for grad school, I did not test well. My ACT was ok -- suitable enough for some good schools. However, I recently stumbled upon an inactive weblink that said it had a formula to convert SAT scores to an IQ score.

BS - I don't believe it. Yet, am I so sure that I should believe than an IQ test (or standardized test) would be able to tell me how smart I am?

I'd be interested to see what others think. My philosophy is, I'm a person no matter how you look at me...not a number.

Truthfully I don't have an answer to that one, other than you should check out the picture on my blog that I recently stumbled upon. Looks to me like none of us had a very big IQ a mere 6-7 years ago:)

i took an IQ test once and it told me i was fairly ordinary and i don't have a problem with being ordinary.

but here's the thing about taking IQ tests: you don't.

because another time i took another IQ test and it told me i was way smarter than and i am and i know it because i know how smart i am. or maybe i don't. but i don't think that either of those tests knew how smart i was at the distinct times that i took them.

you can make a metric to measure anything if you want. and making that metric will probably make you feel pretty smart.

i think standardized tests are silly.
