Train in Vain

That's the title of one of my favorite Clash songs. I have it on CD and I've listened to it every day for a week.

But it makes me think of all the hoopla stirred up recently for commuter rail in Arizona. Hello - we could have used this ten years ago, but of course, we're the last state in our region to even talk about it. Even the Albuquerque area in New Mexico, which really has far less congestion than Maricopa County, will be launching their "Rail Runner" train which will run from Belen through ABQ to Sandoval County (it's pretty cool...check it out here). They're planning ahead, unlike Arizona. Holli and I differ in opinion on the light rail, but a commuter train from PHX to Tucson or Pinal County, or to Wickenburg or Flagstaff, would be great. I think the light rail will be useful as well when fully implemented.

I don't know why I'm doing this, but I'm taking Brief Calculus this summer. Well, I do know why I'm doing it. The president of my university said it would be a good prep course for a PhD. Some of my friends took this equivalent when we were 15, and I'm taking it at 25. Scared to death? Absolutely. But I'm up for the challenge.

I also have to prepare to retake the GRE, as my scores aren't anywhere near where they should be. Dr. Crow told me that typically GRE scores are higher than SAT scores. Not in my case. But Holli and Jay have been very supportive. They did very well on theirs, and Dr. Crow said to view it as a "punk test." Well, I already do.

The posting spree continues...

For the light rail, I think that Phoenix is VERY VERY far behind on implementing any sort of rail system that is going to be useful. So the next 2-3 years for traffic is going to be a nightmare but we shall see. I hope that the light rail system TRULY does help and not turn out to be some ruse.

You will do fine on your GRE exams. And what on Earth are you taking a Brief-Calculus class during the summer, let alone a math class? Man. I would be deathly afraid too! But, you are an intelligent person and I have no doubt in my mind you will do well.

Speaking of exams, I should be taking an exam of my own soon...the LSAT. Do you think it's time? --ST

I lived in SLC when they were putting in the TRAX system and boy was it hype. You just could not have a civil coversation about it. Now after 6+ yrs, it is running with out a blip. The light rail here in NM is going to be good, but they needed in the Santa Fe-Abq corridor first, and the public transportaion in the cities will need to be improved for this to really work. As far as light rail in PHX, this has been floated for ever. I remember the debate on Val-trans, the elevated light rail from 20 or so years ago. This is the one thing about AZ that I don't miss. But if you are going to be governor one day, I am going to move back and vote for you.

Steve - I'll need you on my staff, so you'd better be around!

OOOHHH!! What position do you have in mind? I will definitely be around! Can I also have the honor of introducing you as the new governor after the election at Party HQ?

Hey, did you read my latest soapbox?

Special Counsel? Policy Advisor? Agency Director? I dunno...give me an idea...

Yeah, I read the latest soapbox - entertaining as always!

Special Counsel or Policy Advisor sounds enticing. Whatever position you deem appropriate, as long as I am by your side.

Glad you enjoyed the Soapbox. I was IRATE over the Diane Sawyer episode. Absolutely mortifying!!

Yeah, through what I studied in J-school, ABC is great at reporting the news, but they seem to fail on thier social responsibilities. NBC did their report on internet predators, and they had cops over there in a matter of minutes. So I give my kudos to NBC...

Exactly! ABC does well at reporting the news but they should have taken the tape to the police and authorities the minute they saw it but ABC went too far on wanting shcok value and ratings. And now, the SOL has run out so there is unfortunately nothing to be done or that can be done.

I do remember NBC's expose on internet predators. It was good. And rightfully so, they fulfilled their social responsibilites as required.

Let's hope this disaster doesn't happen again, but I am not going to hold my breath on this one.

What the hell is a "vymmod"? LOL
