Today is your birthday…it’s my birthday too, yeah…

I’m not the best birthday person in the world. Hello – I’ve managed to botch my wife’s birthday for the past two years, only to try really hard to make it up to her. I, on the other hand, tend to not say anything to anyone. A few years ago, I said to heck with it, and organized my own birthday bash with about 35 people present – it was one of the best birthdays I can remember. But alas…I’ve receded into not caring as much anymore, even though 25 is a good number to celebrate. It’s full-force into mid to late 20’s, leaving early 20’s behind. It’s like I almost feel like an adult. Almost.

For some fun information, I share my birthday with:

- Founder of the Boy Scouts Robert Baden-Powell
- Basketball legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving
- Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist
- NBC Announcer Don Pardo (you’d most likely hear him on SNL these days)
- Senator Ted Kennedy (isn’t it only fitting that he and Frist should share a birthday! Ha!)
- Actress Drew Barrymore
- Singer James Blunt

and of course, the person I most enjoy sharing my birthday with, the father of our country, first president George Washington.

But, let’s not let other important events of February 22's past go unnoticed!

I love colleges and universities (it’s a weird fascination of mine), and on this day in 1855, Penn State was founded, and 21 years later in 1876, Johns Hopkins University was founded.

In 1889, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Washington were all admitted to the Union by President Grover Cleveland.

In 1980, the “Miracle” U.S. Hockey team defeated the Soviet Union for the Gold Medal at the Lake Placid Olympic Games.

And, I hesitated to throw this one in there, but what the heck – in 1997, Dolly the Sheep was cloned. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…….

And with that – Happy Birthday to me…
