I know that might be offensive to some people, but really...St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo have lost all real identity and have just become unofficial drinking holidays. Just Google them and you can find out a little about what those days really represent.
DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. Regardless of how many times we say this, some idiot in Tempe or Old Town Scottsdale will drink way too much and still think that he's ok to drive. You put others lives in danger, you deserve to be locked in a cell for a while.
If you're looking for good eats, I always recommend Los Olivos in Old Town Scottsdale. I'm biased because my mom's family has know the Corral's for going on 40 years, but truly, it's the best Mexican food in the valley. I recommend the number one combo, albondigas soup, or a Sonoran enchilada. If you're dieting, do the Tacos al Carbon with chicken. Very healthy.
Frank and Lupe's, also in Old Town, is ok. The food is ok. The service is kind of slow, and the times I've gone, it's been too crowded, and the types of snobs I can't stand to be around are usually in there. And they're pricier than a lot of other places. But who knows...y'all might like it. I don't drink, but those of you who do - I hear they have killer margaritas.
Rancho de Tia Rosa (usually just called Tia Rosa's) on East McKellips in Mesa is pretty good...and I make the distintction because of another one of my favorite Mexican food places is just called Rosa's. They're food isn't quite as traditional (as in what most Arizonan's are used to), but it's sooo good...try a Flying Saucer. Rosa's is on the northwest corner of University and Mesa Dr. in Mesa.
Be safe, amigos...

P.S. I just saw that AZCentral.com has showcased Frank & Lupe's recently, and is going to review Tia Rosa's...might want to see what they have to say too...
Umm...Are you trying to get me to crave Mexican food tonight?!!! Well, it worked. So what are you going to do now?
p.s. Why is there a handicapped sign next to the word verification?
Oh, never mind. It's for the blind, right?
i like rancho de t.r. pretty good. haven't gotten to frank and lupe's yet though there is one on west mckellips in mesa now that just opened a few months ago. la parrilla suiza is pretty good but not great. garcia's is excellent. not been to olivos though.
Jay, Jay, Jay...we're taking you, Shauntel and the cutest kid in the world to Los Olivos as soon as we lose the 15 lbs. we gained from the last time...
i was wondering about the handicapped thing on the word verification thing too, holli. i clicked on it, and then it just says some letters and numbers, so i guess 'for the blind' is probably right, but do reading a blog and being blind really go together? i mean, isn't that why they invented braille? i don't think braille and computer screens probably work very well together.
besides, whether you're blind or not, if you can see the handicapped sign well enough to click on it, would you really have much trouble identifying the letters?
and john: yes i will go to los olivos.
for this comment i tried using the handicapped word verification. it was a boy and a girl voice alternating saying numbers. 95921. it's kind of like something from LOST, since the voices are fairly mysterious.
it is also the zip code of jonesville, california, located in butte county, which is situated in the central valley just north of sacramento.
Hey... a date took me to Los Olivos back when I was at ASU. I haven't been since but I remember it was great! :)
How could you possibly recommend Tia Rosa's knowing how they slighted me! Where's the loyalty?
TK - the loyalty is with you, of course. My bad. Don't go to Tia Rosa's folks...you don't want to eat at places that let future brilliant lawyers go...jerks...
Rosa's rocks even though I haven't been to Mesa (Arizona in general) in like 7 years. I am partial because my cousins own it. They are just as white as me. Hey its awesome.
Great recommendations! I like Serranos. The food is great, service and especially the bean dip!! MMMMMM...
