OK, so in the previous post, I mentioned that I have two job offers on the table.
My dilemma is that I don't know which of them I should accept!
Here's the description of each in a nutshell:
JOB 1: Part of a small staff of a non-profit organization, which in essence is an issues-based, statewide campaign.
I would have either an office or cubicle, with a computer, phone, cards and possibly a BlackBerry. I would help formulate my title, report to essentially one person, travel state-wide on a somewhat regular basis, and have major exposure to major political players in the state. This is a full-time position with healthcare as the biggest benefit. My ideas would be respected, and I would have flexibility in initiating new things in the project. I can see this position lasting a couple of years, tops.
JOB 2: Part of a slightly larger staff at a state agency, working on a significant project that brings critical information from several other agencies to one portal for all state residents.
I would have a cubicle, computer, phone, and business cards. I would help construct an appropriate title, work with several people, attend meetings, travel state-wide occasionally, and have some exposure to politcal players, but mostly administrators. It is a full-time position, but I would be hired via a temp agency, so I highly doubt any benefits would come with it. The hiring supervisor says she can see this position lasting up to a year-and-a-half.
ETC.: Both jobs pay about the same, and I'd have to (if I wanted to) quit either one and move if I make it to the finalist and fellow portions of the Presidential Management Fellowship. So, what about committment? Would it be bad to quit after six months if the PMF position was really what I wanted to do?
Anyway, my wife and I are on our way to an Andrew Bird/Nickel Creek concert...but your opions would greatly help!

Both sound like good offers. I would seriously think it over and pray and see what will work for you. Benefits never hurt anyone. The temp agency you contract with might have benefits so check that out. It's not unheard of for people to quit after 6 months so I wouldn't worry about that. Someone at my company once quit after a week on the job. It really depends.
First, don't worry about the six month thing. Do what's best for you and your family. Keeping employees is one of the risks of running a business...not your problem.
Second, I think Job 1 is more your style. You will excel more if you stand out. I just can't see you as part of a staff at a state agency where you'd be the low man on the totem pole. Think long term here...the exposure is very valuable to your future goals.
Healthcare...doesn't Mrs. Ronk have insurance? Is that really an issue? Either way, job 1 is the one I like and it has health care anyway.
I vote Job 1!
