Break Time Ticking Away
I must say that I have enjoyed my time away from school. It's been nice to put ASU completely aside for the bulk of the entire winter break, but I know I'll have to hit the ground running when January 20th rolls around.
This weekend was a long one and a good one. I got to pull down two ASU basketball games (men of course, I'm still boycotting the ASU women's games), dinner with Schuh, Snowden and Julie J, and a good Sunday at church and watching Marcia perform with Street Jam at the Kerr Cultural Center in Scottsdale. My friend Tara came with me to the ASU/Stanford game (a heartbreaker loss), and I was so psyched she came. I don't think she realized how long I'd been waiting to hang out and just talk to her...but she has a boyfriend, and it's hard to do that when the girls have boyfriends. YES, YES, I KNOW. The time has come for me to stop hanging out with girls who have boyfriends...
Church News
I think I'm finally starting to like my ward and am begging to immerse myself in the church again. It's something I've needed because I realize I've been extremely prideful and selfish regarding my status with the church. It's not that I stopped believeing or anything...that would never happen...it was just that my delusions of some of the people got the best of me, and I was just turned off to them. But I know that I am where I'm supposed to be, and I think God has intervened properly and quietly. Things will only get better if I do what is right. For the first time since I returned from my mission I actually have LDS friends, and they are some of the most amazing and selfless individuals. A "coworker" of sorts has virtually changed a lot about the way I look at things. She's made strides to help me find a place where I belong, and has been a great source of inspiration. I'm also meeting more people in the ward, and I'm realizing that I have a lot in common with some of the people.
Singles wards aren't all the bad. A lot of the people in my ward are out of school and are older. By older I mean 26, 27, 29, whatever...I think the youngest guy in my ward is 21, fresh off his mission, and the youngest girl is probably 23. Of course we're all pelted with hints of marriage, but you learn quickly to shrug them off if you want to. President Udall asked me last week, "So, have you found the girl of your dreams?" I told him no, but I was really thinking, Yeah, but she's marrying a guy name D*****.
Such is life...until next time...
